Terms of Service
Last updated: June 27, 2026
1. Agreement
By using the Nook web application, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the application.
2. The software
Nook is open-source client-side software provided under the MIT License. The hosted web app at https://nokey.sh is a convenience deployment of that software; you may also self-host or build from source.
3. No warranty
Nook is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The project is early-stage software. See the repository README for current limitations.
4. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Backing up your vault and any sync provider replicas you rely on.
- Protecting your device, browser profile, backup passwords, and sync provider credentials.
- Complying with Google, GitHub, and any other third-party terms when you use those integrations.
- Sharing enrollment links and QR codes only with devices and people you trust.
If you clear browser data or lose access to your sync providers without independent backups, you may permanently lose access to your vault. Nook cannot recover your secrets.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Nook to violate applicable law or the terms of services you connect, including Google Drive and GitHub. You must not attempt to interfere with the application, other users' systems, or connected third-party services.
6. Third-party services
Optional sync uses third-party APIs. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Nook is not responsible for third-party outages, policy changes, or data handling outside the encrypted vault files you store there.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Nook authors and contributors are not liable for any loss of data, unauthorized access, device loss, misconfiguration, browser clearing, sync conflicts, or other damages arising from your use of the software.
8. Changes
We may update these terms as the project evolves. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
9. Contact
Questions about these terms can be opened in GitHub issues or sent through the project site at nokey.sh.
